Topic #2- Supporting the Use of Isotopic Tools to Study Ocean Acidification

Jordan is in support of coming together to use isotopic tools to study ocean acidification. This idea is beneficial to all parties involved, both humans and sea creatures. If ocean acidification levels keep rising, as pollution is, this would wreak havoc on sea life and the oceans.

While Jordan is not surrounded by oceans, it does have some aquatic life in the Gulf of Aqaba. The Gulf of Aqaba has been the home to one of the finest marine life ecosystems in the Middle East. CO2 levels in the gulf are much higher compared to surrounding gulfs. This is due in part to the amount of factories surrounding the gulf. Jordan is working to lower these emission levels to help protect wildlife.

We call for larger and more powerful countries with more pollution and sea life to take the same approach to save these animals. Specifically China and Indonesia, since they have the most pollution in their oceans. Together these counties make up 52% of all oceans pollution in the world. If the largest producers do not stop and prevent more pollution, what is pushing other countries, with far less pollution, to stop and prevent.

In summary, Jordan will help guide the committee towards a peaceful resolution that benefits all countries involved. Furthermore, it is dire that larger nations do their fair share to deescalate the situation.
