Republic of South Sudan

Topic 2 – Promoting International Scientific Cooperation on Critical Challenges to Sustainable Development

The Republic of South Sudan will invest a significant amount of effort in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in order to accomplish all of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). If an international effort is made in accomplishing these goals; education and sustainability will be drastically improved. South Sudan will continue to work with UNESCO to address the issues involved. The main priority is to gain access to clean drinking water worldwide. If all of the SDGs are accomplished, then economic prosperity and sustainability will be achieved.

It is vital that there are opportunities available for young people to further explore STI. The Republic of South Sudan has been working with UNESCO to open workshops that allow students to explore and develop new technologies. In order to have a sustainable society, an effort must be made in growing STI in the education system. South Sudan has made a substantial effort to grow the education body in the past couple of years. With the growth of STI in South Sudan and internationally, countries are becoming more sustainable.

Access to clean drinking water is one of the most important parts of the SDGs. It is very difficult for a country to become sustainable if they do not have any clean water, as a lack of it causes many health problems. The Republic of South Sudan and other Eastern African regions are currently facing troubles with finding a source of clean water. Nonetheless, South Sudan is making huge strides towards having a sustainable access to water. In March of 2016, South Sudan and UNESCO celebrated World Water Day in Juba. Solutions to problems involving water were discussed as well as promoting jobs in the scientific field that will lead to more innovations involving water. South Sudan will benefit significantly with these new changes. According to SD6, “Access to safe water and sanitation and sound management of freshwater ecosystems are essential to human health and to environmental sustainability and economic prosperity.”  A worldwide effort must be made into solving these issues as it will lead to the growth of many countries’ economies. This is why the Republic of South Sudan encourages the development of safe, clean drinking water internationally.

With the development of STI, all of the SDGs will be easier to achieve. In order to have an advanced and sustainable society, The Republic of South Sudan has invested a substantial amount of effort into these areas. With the development of new programs that teach about STI, South Sudan is becoming a more advanced society. Clean water is also becoming more available to the people of our country. As these solutions continue to be developed, the economy and equality will continue to improve.
